"Finest Wheat"
It was May 30, of 2021. April 2021 was one of the hardest months I had ever encountered. Dating after divorce is hard. The unexpected breakup of that first real relationship after divorce even harder. Add to that a court decision to protect the kids and I that I struggled to fathom was even reality, and well, “hardest month” is an understatement. As I was driving on that Sunday morning the sunlight through the field caught my attention. I was alone early that morning, no kids, and I honestly can’t remember why. I may have just gone for an early morning drive before they woke up. I had my camera with me, turned around, parked at a small little gate, got out of the car and took in the view. For a moment I could breathe. “Finest Wheat” came to mind. Later I looked up where that was in the Bible. Psalm 147. It brought peace to my aching heart. Little did I know in the moment, I would also need the strength found in the Lord early that morning for an encounter a few hours later. The Lord truly goes before us, equipping us in moments that we don’t realize the magnitude of until months and even years later.
The insight into the journey…I realized I had never written anything about this image. It is the image that actually inspired the idea behind these notecards. Gratitude, a reminder to breathe in whatever season you may find yourself in and encourage someone else to do the same. They all have meaning, but this one is so tender to my heart. 4 years later, part of the wheat field became the site of a church. A church I now attend. A place where the Spirit continues to speak so much life. I remember seeing the first construction sign and being brought back to my wheat field moment where the Lord let me breathe. How wild that part of the field would become a church. Most of the time now I park in the back parking lot and the view of the field is a beautiful reminder of His goodness. He is such a good Father. “Praise Him” He “heals” and “sustains”. He is “mighty in power.” He “delights” in those who fear him and put their hope in His “unfailing love.” He strengthens, blesses, grants peace, and satisfies with the “finest wheat”. “Praise the Lord.”
I pray you can pause and remember His love IS unfailing regardless of what this world may have taught you. He will strengthen you. He will give you peace. It may look nothing like you envisioned, but He will continue to satisfy you with the finest wheat. You can praise Him knowing He is still good and loves you so much.
Praise the LORD.
How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him! The LORD builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the exiles of Israel. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit. The LORD sustains the humble but casts the wicked to the ground. Sing to the LORD with grateful praise; make music to our God on the harp. He covers the sky with clouds; he supplies the earth with rain and makes grass grow on the hills. He provides food for the cattle and for the young ravens when they call. His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of the warrior; the LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love. Extol the LORD, Jerusalem; praise your God, Zion. He strengthens the bars of your gates and blesses your people within you. He grants peace to your borders and satisfies you with the finest of wheat. He sends his command to the earth; his word runs swiftly. He spreads the snow like wool and scatters the frost like ashes. He hurls down his hail like pebbles. Who can withstand his icy blast? He sends his word and melts them; he stirs up his breezes, and the waters flow. He has revealed his word to Jacob, his laws and decrees to Israel. He has done this for no other nation; they do not know his laws.
Praise the LORD.
